Help make New Zealand's road funding system simpler and more accessible.

Small team. High leverage. Real-world impact.

Don't See Your Role?

We hire intentionally and carefully. If you believe you can meaningfully improve what we're building, even if you don't perfectly match a listed role, we want to hear from you.

We read every submission.

Why RUC on Rails?

New Zealand is entering the most significant shift in road funding in decades. As Road User Charges expand across the full vehicle fleet, millions of drivers will be required to navigate new digital systems.

For many, that transition won't be simple.

We're building the technology and retail infrastructure that makes RUC more accessible, transparent and easier to use, regardless of how someone prefers to interact, online or in person.

RUC on Rails operates a focused ecosystem of platforms spanning information infrastructure, comparison tools, retail access and digital RUC services. Our work sits at the intersection of regulation, automation, data and everyday Kiwi drivers.

Accessibility is not an afterthought. It's the design principle.

If you join us, you won't be maintaining legacy software. You'll be helping shape how a country interacts with a core public system in a way that works for everyone.

What It's Like to Work Here

Build with leverage

We are deliberately lean. That means fewer meetings, fewer layers, and more responsibility. Technology, automation and systems thinking are central to how we operate.

We look for people who can multiply output, not just add to it.

Think in systems

Engineering, product, regulatory awareness and distribution strategy overlap constantly. You'll see how a technical decision affects compliance, customer behaviour and commercial performance.

Context is part of the job.

Operate at inflection speed

The 2027–2028 RUC transition creates a rare window to shape the market before it matures. We are building ahead of that curve.

Joining now means contributing at formation stage, not optimisation stage.

Who Thrives Here

  • Self-directed builders who don’t need constant direction
  • Innovators who think in systems, not tasks
  • People comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration
  • Those excited by infrastructure, public systems and real-world scale

We value capability over credentials. If you can demonstrate leverage, clarity of thinking and execution ability, we're interested.

Location & Working Model

We are a New Zealand-based company.

Work arrangements depend on the role and the level of operational sensitivity involved.

Some roles are remote-friendly within New Zealand. Others require in-person collaboration and controlled environments due to the nature of the systems we operate.

We prioritise security, accountability and execution over trend-driven policies.
