Build things that pull their weight
We're small on purpose. Fewer hand-offs, fewer meetings and plenty of ownership. We use software and automation where they genuinely make the work better.
Make the useful thing. Ship it. Improve it.
Come build RUC Pass, RUC Compare and RUC Hub with a small team in Dunedin. The job: make New Zealand's changing RUC system easier for ordinary drivers.
We hire engineers, product people and commercial operators. Dunedin is home base. If you're elsewhere in New Zealand and the role fits, apply anyway.

No perfect role listed? Fair enough. If you've looked at what we're building and can see a useful place to get stuck in, we'd still like to hear from you.
We read every submission.

What you think we're missing
What you'd build, fix or make simpler
Why you're the person to do it
New Zealand is changing how it funds roads. As Road User Charges expand to more vehicles, millions of drivers will meet the system for the first time.
That could get confusing fast.
We're building the software and retail network that makes buying and managing RUC straightforward, whether someone wants to do it online or talk to a person at a local store.
RUC on Rails operates RUC Pass for purchasing and retail access, RUC Compare for provider comparison, and RUC Hub for information and market intelligence. That means getting regulation, automation and data right without losing sight of the everyday Kiwi drivers who have to use it.
Join now and you'll help shape the system while it is still taking form. You won't be babysitting a pile of legacy software.
Accessibility is the point
We're small on purpose. Fewer hand-offs, fewer meetings and plenty of ownership. We use software and automation where they genuinely make the work better.
Make the useful thing. Ship it. Improve it.
Product, engineering, regulation and distribution collide here. A small technical decision can change compliance, customer behaviour and how the business runs.
Context isn't optional.
The 2027–2028 RUC transition is a short window to help shape a new market. We're building before the rules and habits harden.
You'll join while the category is still taking shape.
People who spot what needs doing and get on with it
Systems thinkers who still care about the small details
People comfortable saying “I don’t know yet” and finding out
Builders excited by public infrastructure and real-world scale
We care more about what you can do than the logos on your CV. Show us clear thinking, good judgement and evidence that you can ship.
We're based in Dunedin. That's home base, and where we'd prefer to grow the team.
We'll hire anywhere in New Zealand for the right person. Some roles work well remotely; others need time together in Dunedin because of the systems and information involved.
We care about good work, clear ownership, and being able to get in a room when the work calls for it.
